The Saga of Lunar Calendar

With this UGADI we enter the Virodhi naama Samvatsara. As it is well known that all the Hindu Festivals are celebrated as per the Telugu Almanac, which follows the lunar (Chandramaanam) cycles that are very much different from the regular solar time cycles that we are aware of. So, let us attempt to comprehend the saga of lunar time cycles...

As per the lunar calendar the time is computed in terms of -
Vighadiya = 6 times the time taken to flap the eyelid
Ghadiya = 60 vighadiyas
Jamu = 7 ½ Ghadiyas
Tithi =8 Jamus (equivalent to day)

The whole time is categorised into four Yugas namely -
Satya Yuga or Krita Yuga with 17,28,000 years
Thretha Yuga with 12,96,000 years
Dwapara Yuga with 8,64,000 years
Kali Yuga with 4,32,000 years

There are 60 years named as

And the cycle starts all over again. So also would the Eras. But it is so believed that the cycle ends with a catastrophe and then begins the Satya Yuga all afresh!

అవధూతలు - మనిషి కర్మ నివారణ

ఈ భూమండలం ఫై మానవ జన్మ ధరించే ఆత్మలు ఎన్నో లోకాల నుండి వస్తున్నవే. దేవతలు, కిన్నెర, కిం పురష , పిశాచ , రాక్షస, ప్రేతాత్మలు, ఋషి మండలాత్మలు ఇత్యాది ఆత్మలన్నీ వాటి వాటి కార్యం మరియు గత కర్మల అనుసందానముతో ఈ భూమి ఫై మానవులుగా జన్మించడం జరుగుచున్నది. దేవతలు , మానవులుగా జన్మించి లోక కళ్యాణ కార్యక్రమములు చేపట్టుదురు. సాటి మానవులని ప్రేమతో చూడటమే కాకుండా మానవ సుభ కళ్యాణం కోసం అహర్నిశలు శ్రమించి తమ తమ జన్మలను సార్ధకం చేసుకొందురు. కిన్నెర , కిం పుర్షులు, ఈ భూమండలము ఫై మానవులుగా జన్మించి అతి ఉన్నతమైన , అతి సున్నితమిన మృదు వైన కళాకారులుగా తమ తమ జీవనాన్ని కొనసాగించేదారు. గాన గంధర్వుడు ఐన అన్నమయ ఈ కోవకు చెందినవాడే. ఇకపోతే పిశాచాలు, రాక్షసులు , ప్రేతాత్మలు , ఈ భూమండలము ఫై మానవుని గా జన్మించి సాటి మనిషి ని పీడించి సాటి మనిషి యొక్క రక్త మాంసములను ప్రత్యక్షంగానూ , పరోక్షం గానో భుచించేదారు. తమ తమ స్వార్థ ప్రయోజనాలకు సాటి మానవులను సమిధలు గా చేసుకొని తమ తమ లాభాలను పొందుదురు. తమ కారణం గా మానవులు రోదిస్తున్నపటి కి, దుఖిస్తునప్పటి కి, మరనిస్తున్నప్పటి కి వారికి వినిపించదు, కనిపించదు. పైగా మందహాసం , చిరునవ్వు, దర్పము, అహంభావములతో వ్యవహరించెదరు. పైగా పబ్లిసిటీ కోసం గొప్ప గొప్ప దైవ కార్క్రమములను సైతం నిర్వహించదమో లేక అట్టి వాటి లో పాల్గొనడమో చేయుదురు. వీరు కాలము యొక్క శిక్షను తప్పించుకోలేరు. కాని వీరి పాపాలను, దుర్మార్గ పద్దతుల పూర్తి ఫలితాలను వీరి తదుపరి ఏడు తరాల వారు అనుభవించుదురు. తమ తదుపరి శిక్షలు తమకు కాదని వీరు వ్యఃరించుదురు. ఆ తదుపరి వీరి మునిమనుమలు సైతం దూశించుదురు.

ఇకపోతే ఋషి మండలములోని ఆత్మలు యోగులుగాను, ఋషీశ్వరులుగాను ఈ భూ మండలము ఫై జన్మించి దైవ జ్ఞాన సంపదను వేదజల్లుదురు. సాటి మానవులను ఆధ్యత్యమిక మార్గమున నడిపించేదరు. దేవతలలో అత్యంత ఉన్నతులు ఈ భూ మండలం ఫై అవధూతలు గా జన్మించేదరు. కాశ్మీరు నుండి కన్యాకుమారి వరకు ఈ భారతదేశ చరిత్రలో ఈ అవధూతలు సువర్ణ అక్షరాలతో నమోదు చేయబడ్డారు. భారతదేశం "కర్మభూమి" ఈ అవదూతలకు భూత, భవిష్యత్లు , ప్రస్ఫుటం, వీరు కోర్కలకు అతీతులు , సగటు జీవనానికి అతీతులు. వీరికి ఈ భూమి ఫై ఎవరితోను అనుసంధానములు ఉండవు. దైవ ఆజ్ఞ ని ఖచ్చితంగా పాటిస్తారు. వీరి యొక్క ప్రతిచర్య , ప్రతిమాట సామాన్యులకు "వెర్రితనం" గాను "పిచ్చితనం" గాను కనిపిస్తాయి గాని వాస్తావానికి లోపల దైవకార్యం , కర్మకార్యం ముడిపడి వుంటాయి.
అవధూత యొక్క చేయి తగిలిన మనిషి దేహములోని ప్రాణ శక్తీ ఒక్కసారిగా బలం పుంజుకుని అంతవరకు దేహంలో ఉండిన రోగ వ్యవస్థ మటుమాయం ఐపోతున్నది. అవధూత హస్త స్పర్స తో వ్యక్తి యొక్క గత కర్త శేషం నశించి సుభారోజులు ప్రారంభమగును. అవదూతలకు మానవులవలె ఆహార, పానీయాలు అవసరము లేదు. వారికి పంచభూతలనుండి "శక్తీ " ప్రసారమవుతుంది. అవధూతలు పైకి తిట్టినట్లు కనిపిస్తారు, వాస్తవానికి వారి తిట్లు తిన్నవారి కి శుభం జరుగును. ఈ విధమైన చర్యలు అన్ని ఎదుటివాని ఆత్మకు అంటిపెట్టుకుని వున్నా కర్మ నివారణ చేయును. అవధూతల అభిమానము పొందినవారికి మరుజన్మ వుండదు. అవధూతల దృష్తి సైతం కర్మను తొలగించగలదు. అవధూతలు తరచూ విశ్వం లోనికి చూస్తూ దైవం తో మాట్లాడుచున్డుదురు. అవధూతల ప్రవర్థనావిధానం భిన్నం. ఇది సామాన్యులకు అర్థంకాదు. అవదూతలకు ఎలాంటి స్వార్ధం వుండదు. సాటి మానవులను వారి వారి కర్మలనుండి రక్షించడమే వారి ఆశయం.

ఈ భారత భూమి ఫై జన్మించిన ఎ ఒక్క అవధూత మతం గురించి ప్రచారం చేయలేదు కాని సాటి మనిషి కర్మను తప్పించారు. సాటి మనిషి కి ఊరట కల్పించారు. అంటే ఈ సృష్టి లో ఉన్నా మతం వొక్కటే అదే దైవ మతం. మనిషి తనకున్న ఏర్పడిన నమ్మకాలతో మతాలు ఏర్పాటు చేసుకున్నాడు అంత సూన్యం. ఎవరికీ ఎవరూ ఉండరు. భావ బంధాలు అనబడే "మాయ" లో మనిషి బందీ ఐ చివరకి సూన్యం లో మాయమిపోవుచున్నాడు.

అవధూతల చూపు, ముఖ కదలికలు, మాటల ద్వార మనిషి సత్యాన్ని గ్రహించవచు. ఈ సత్యమే పరమాత్మ సత్యం.

ఒకసారి షిరిడి సాయి బాబా తన దేహాన్ని నెల ఫై విడిచి పెట్టి స్వరూపుడై వెళ్ళిపోయే ఆ తదుపరి దేహం లోనికి ప్రవేశించి కలకత్తా నివాసి ఐన ఒక ఒక అవధూత వద్దకి తను వెళ్లి వచ్చాను అని చెప్పడం జరిగింది. ఈ అనంత విశ్వం లో ఉన్నా అనేక మానవ లోకాలలో ఈ అవధూతలు తమదైన దైవ కార్యక్రమములు ను నిర్వర్తిన్చుదురు. భూమి అంటే మనం నివసిస్తున్నది ఒకటే కాదు. ఈ అనంత విశ్వం లో అనేక సూర్య మండలాలు కలవు. ప్రతి ఒక్క సూర్యమండలము లోను ఒక మానవ నివాసమిన భూమి కలదు. ఆత్మబందీయుడైన మనిషి ని అతని కర్మ చక్రంలోంచి విముక్తుడిని చేయటానికి ఈ భూమి ఫై జన్మించే ద్య్వకార్యకర్తలే ఈ అవధూతలు. సర్వేజనా సుఖినోభవంతు. Dattatreya

Lord Dattatreya
Dattatreya is a Hindu God who is an incarnation of the Divine Trinity Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. The word Datta means "Given", Datta is called so because the divine trinity have "given" themselves in the form of a son to the sage couple Atri and Anasuya. He is the son of Atri, hence the name "Atreya". In the Natha tradition, Dattatreya is recognized as an Avatar or incarnation of the Lord Shiva and as the Adi-Guru (First Teacher) of the Adi-Nath sampradaya of the Nathas. The creative, the preservative and the disintegrating powers of God are supposed to be manifest in the personality of Lord Dattatreya. The name or word 'Dattatreya' is constituted of two terms, 'Datta' and 'Atreya'. In Sanskrit, 'Datta' means one who is bestowed as a gift, and 'Atreya' is an honorific which is derived from the name of a great sage called Atri. The son of Atri is Atreya. A descendent of Atri also is Atreya. One who is bestowed as a divine child on the great sage Atri, by the Gods Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva themselves, is Dattatreya.

Birth of Lord Dattatreya
Dattatreya had descended into the realm of world as progeny of Atri and Anusuya, a sage couple of the Vedic age. Anusuya became very famous for her devotion to her husband. She was the embodiment of chastity. Such was her spiritual power that hard, uneven earth turned soft and smooth for her as she walked about. This pious woman induced jealousy and envy in others, however, and the three Gods decided to prove these doubting elements how wrong they were.
They transformed themselves into mendicants, approached the hermitage of sage Atri and begged for alms. At that time sage Atri was away at the river offering his daily oblations. Anusuya came out and offered food to them. They made a strange request; the food be prepared and served to them by Anusuya, in the nude. In the Indian tradition any 'athithi' (guest) cannot be turned away, as they are considered to be an aspect of God. Hence she was placed in a dilemma. She smiled to herself and reflected thus: ‘I am totally purified by the long association with the holy sage Atri. What harm can the god of lust ever do to me? So I do fear nothing. As they have sought food from my hands, I look upon them as my own children and not as strangers and grown up men!’ Her thoughts – the thoughts of a pious and chaste person – instantly became reality; the elderly guests became babies! Sage Atri on his return to the hermitage saw his wife Anusuya fondling three babies. Anusuya said "These children are the gift of God to us who have been childless so far". Sage Atri was overjoyed and named them Datta, which means 'given'. At this the three Gods reverted to their real forms and disclosed the truth. They extolled the power of chastity and purity of Anusuya which vanquished the combined and colossal powers of all three of them. Sage Atri and Anusuya prayed that they should remain as their sons. They consented and the three Gods merged into one body. This is how Shri Dattatreya incarnated and is known as Gurudeva Datta – the Guru of all Gurus.

Physical Details
Shri Dattatreya or Datta Guru, an incarnation who came to light the lamp of wisdom among the people. Shri Dattatreya is a splendorous form. His face radiates all wisdom and draws us away from the lures of the world. Though He is the Supreme Lord of this universe, yet He is a total and supreme recluse. Though He moves from place to place, His favorite abode is the Holy Audambar tree (A type of fig type, Ficus glomerate). He has matted hair on His head. His body is ever smeared with holy ashes and He wears tiger-skin for His garment. A cow and four dogs are always with Him as His constant companions. He is an 'Avadhoot', ever anchored in Spirit, but always overflowing with compassion for all the beings and the entire creation. He is the embodiment of total Godhead. All the aspects of Godhead are fully manifest in Him. His faces and form are ever radiant with peace and divine charm.

The Cow, which is always with Him, represents the Mother Earth and Dharma. She is the wish fulfilling cow 'Kamadhenu'.

The four dogs symbolise the four Vedas – the external repositories of Spiritual Wisdom.

The trident indicates that He has transcended the three gunas, which constitute the illusory world: Sattva-illumination, Rajas-activity and Tamas-inertia.

The 'Sudharshana chakra' , disc indicates that He is beyond the cycles of time i.e. the past, present and future and His holding of 'chakra' means He is the controller of time.

The conch represents the eternal sound ‘AUM’ – which is the manifestation of the Spirit. It is also the life principle in us and the cosmos.

The 'bhasma' ashes indicated His 'Vairaagya' dispassion as well as His purity. Ashes indicate the evanescent nature of all created nature of all created objects and the ultimate state of all matter.

He always carries a begging bowl so as to teach us the lesson that we will have to share our wealth and food with others.

The japa-mala, rosary He wears reminds us that our primary duty is chanting the sacred name of the Lord and meditating on the feet of the Lord, and our redemption depends on this discipline alone.

Shri Dattatreya, in order to bless His devotees and the righteous ones, wanders about in the guise of a random guest at the lunch hour. That's why it is said that a random guest has to be treated as the very embodiment of Lord Dattaterya.

Datta Avataramulu

1. శ్రీపాద శ్రీ వల్లభుడు
ఇది దత్తాత్రేయుని మొదటి అవతారంగా అభివర్ణించబడింది. శ్రీ పాద శ్రీ వల్లభుడు 14వ శతాబ్దం లో తూర్పుగోదావరి జిల్లాలోని పిఠాపురం అనే గ్రామంలో జన్మించెను . వేదవేదాంగాలను అభ్యసంచి చిన్నతనంలోనే సన్యసించి ఇల్లువదలి దేశయాత్రలు ముగించెను. తర్వాత కురుపురం చేరి కొంత కాలమునకు అక్కడి కృష్ణానది లో అంతర్ధానము ఐరి . వారు శరీరంతో వున్నప్పుడే కాక శరీరం వదలిన తరువాత కూడా నేటికీ భక్తులను అనుగ్రహించుచూ అనేక మహిమలను చూపుచున్నారు.

2. శ్రీనృసింహ సరస్వతి స్వామి
ఈ స్వామి 15వ శతాబ్దంలో మహారాష్ట్రలోని కరంజానగరంలో జన్మించి పుట్టుకతోనే మౌనవ్రతాన్ని ఆచరించి, ఎన్నో మహిమలు చూపి తన అవతార ప్రాముఖ్యమును నిరూపించెను. శ్రీనృసిహ్మసరస్వతి స్వామి ఉపనయనము వెంటనే మౌనవ్రతాన్ని, స్వంత ఇంటిని వదిలి దేశపర్యటన చేసెను. అనంతరం నరసింహవాడి చేరి అక్కడ 12 సంవత్సరాలు గడిపెను. తరువాత గుల్బర్గాజిల్లలోని గానుగాపురం చేరి సంగమం వద్ద ఔదుంబర వృక్షం కింద తన నివాసమేర్పరుచుకుని అనేక సంవత్సరములు తన తపోశక్తితో భక్తుల కష్టములను బాధలను తీర్చెను. వారిని మోక్షమార్గం వైపు నడిపించి, తుదకు తన నిర్గుణ పాదుకలను మతం లో ప్రతిష్టించి శ్రీశైలం చేరుకుని అక్కడ పాతాళగంగ వద్ద వివిధ పేర్లతో అంతర్వితులిరి. శ్రీస్వామి పాదమహిమచే గానుగాపురం ప్రసిద్ధపున్యక్షేత్రంగా వెలసి భక్తుల బాధలను బాపుతోంది.

౩. శ్రీ మాణిక్య ప్రభు మహారాజ్
మాణిక్య ప్రభు మహారాజ్ గుల్బర్గజిల్లలోని కళ్యాణి నగరంలో జన్మించి, బాల్యమునందే అనేక లీలలను చూపి అక్కడ నుండి మాణిక్య నగరుకు వచ్చి ఒక దర్బారు నిర్మింపచేసి అక్కడనే స్థిర నివాసమేర్పరుచుకున్నారు. ఈ దర్బారు అవధూత దర్బారుగా ప్రసిధి కి ఎక్కినది. స్వామి కాలం నుంచే నిత్యాన్న దానం ఎటువంటి కరువు పరిస్థితులలో కూడా నిరాటంకంగా నేటికి కొనసాగుతూ ఉంది.

4. శ్రీ అక్కల్కోట మహారాజ్
స్వామి సమర్దగా పిలువబడే అక్కల్కోట మహారాజ్ ఎవరో ఎక్కడి నుండి వచ్చారో ఎవరికీ తెలియదు. కాని వారు మాత్రం దేశంలోని అన్ని పున్యక్షేత్రాలలోను వివిధ పేర్లతో పిలువబడుతూ కనిపించారు . ప్రతిస్తానంలోను వారి మహిమ ప్రకతితమవ్వగానే అక్కడ నుండి వేరొక ప్రాంతానికి వెళ్ళిపోయేవారు. వీరు దత్తావతారమేగాని మొదటి అవతారాలలో లాగ సన్యాసి మాదిరి కాక సంపూర్ణ అవధూత స్థితిలో ఉండేవారు. అన్ని ప్రాంతాలలో పర్యటించి, చివరకు అక్కల్కోట వటవృక్షం క్రింద నివాసమెర్పరుచుకుని వటవృక్ష ప్రసిద్ధిగాంచి అక్కడనే సమాధి చెందిరి.

5. శ్రీ సాయిబాబా
సాయిబాబా కూడా ఎవరో ఎక్కడి నుంచి వచ్చారో ఎవరికీ తెలియదు. 16సంవత్సరాల బాలుడిగా షిర్డీలోని వేపచెట్టు కింద ప్రకతితమై cహివరకు షిర్డీ లోనే ఉండిపోయారు. ఈ ఫై అన్ని అవతారములలోను వారు భక్తుల ఫై కురిపించిన ప్రేమకాని, చూపించిన లీలలు కాని అన్ని ఇంచుమించు ఒకేరకంగా ఉంటాయి. వారు భక్తులకోసం వచ్చారు. కాలానుగుణంగా భక్తులనుద్దరించి తమ అవతార ప్రాముఖ్యాన్ని నిరుపించుకున్నారు.
